Mexican Border to Warner Springs (Mile 0-109.5)

I have to pinch myself that I’m actually here. On May 14th at 7:30 am, I departed the southern terminus of the Pacific Crest Trail to begin my northbound thru-hike that will take me an estimated 5 months to complete. So far, I’m feeling great and moving right along. On May 17th, I passed the 100-mile marker. On my fourth day, I did 37 miles!

My Bibbulmun Track “warm-up hike” definitely seems to have helped me from suffering the initial leg and foot pain that I see some other hikers going through now.

My first stop in Warner Springs, I got a bucket shower, split a hot pizza with another hiker, and received my first resupply box. The Mojave is much more scenic and mountainous than I ever anticipated. It is so beautiful here in southern California! It has been hot but usually accompanied by a breeze. I like to knock out the miles in the early morning when it’s cool. I have also made some gear adjustments to help lighten the load and save time on the trail.

Since I talk so much about Australia and my hiking experience there, another thru-hiker proposed my trail name be “Outback,” which I have gone by ever since.

I did my first night of “cowboy camping,” which consist of sleeping under the stars with a sleeping bag and no tent.

I’m so excited to keep going and I hope you’ll follow along!
