The Knobstone Trail (KT) has been affectionately dubbed “The Little Appalachian Trail” and is Indiana’s longest continuous hiking trail. This backcountry footpath is located in southern Indiana near the town of Salem. The KT, according to the DNR, “traverses land with extreme relief distinguished by narrow, relatively flat-topped ridges typical of the Knobstone Escarpment.” I will be starting at the southern terminus at Deam Lake (near Borden, IN by the Ohio River) and hiking approximately 50 miles northbound to Delaney Creek Park. Thru-hiking the Knobstone Escarpment will be a unique opportunity to explore a scenic corner of the Midwest where I spent time in my boyhood years.
